Sebastián is the Founder and CEO of Kaccelerator, a next-generation thematic investing fund focused on disrupting innovations that are changing the world for the better and have long-term growth potential. He is an environmental activist, social business advocate and an avid investor in start-ups and publicly traded companies.
From 2005 to 2018, prior to the founding of Kaccelerator, Sebastián was a key executive at Ria Money Transfer, a subsidiary of Euronet Worldwide (NASDAQ: EEFT), and was a driving force behind the company’s evolution from a small money transfer operation to the 3rd largest remittance company in the world.
Soon after joining Ria in 2005, Sebastián executed a number of strategic decisions which allowed Ria to compete on the global market and would become instrumental to the company’s $500 million acquisition by Euronet Worldwide in 2007.
As Managing Director of Europe, Middle East, Africa & South Asia for the past 10 years, Sebastián led the international expansion of Ria Money Transfer overseeing sales, operations, finance, compliance, regulations, IT systems and the scaling of the company around the world. Under his leadership, nearly 150k locations were incorporated into Ria’s network and his P&L would reach an impressive EBIT growth of nearly 25% annually over the past 10 years.
Sebastián Plubins, Founder and CEO
Sebastián began his career in Chile where he was born and bred. From 2001 to 2004, he worked in Chile at Inter Money Exchange where he learned about currency and stock trading. From 2004 to 2005 Sebastian worked for Chequepoint, a currency exchange company based in London with operation across Europe.
Sebastián holds an MBA in International Business and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Gabriela Mistral University. He has also completed postgraduate studies in Strategy and Innovation from the University of Oxford’s Said Business School, and is a frequent speaker in financial inclusion forums organized by the World Bank, IFAD and the United Nations, amongst others.
In 2015 he received, on behalf of Ria, the “World’s Best Money Transfer Company Award” from the International Association of Money Transfer Network (IAMTN). He has Chilean and Swiss nationality, and has lived in Santiago, London, Geneva and currently resides in Madrid with his wife and daughters.
